STOLEN IDENTITY ON A DATING WEBSITE

Hi, everyone !

Today I want to share a story with you, about the day when my best friends’ pictures got stolen by a fake profile, claiming to be him.

One day a friend of mine got bored to death and decided to register in a dating site to socialize with some new chat buddies. Little did he know, his pictures were already on that website with another username and profile. So he registered, uploaded some of his pictures and started chatting with some new people. Because he was just looking for people to talk to, the profiles which were shown to him were both girls and boys.

The first day went fine as he already met some new friends and started a lot of conversations. The next few days things were quiet, until one of his new friends wrote to him asking “Hey, dude, why do you have two profiles here? “. My friend thought it was a joke and replied that it was not funny. Then he got another message with a link leading to someone’s profile.

When Peter (not the real name of my friend but let’s call him that) opened the link in a new tab in the browser he couldn’t believe his eyes. Almost all of his freshly uploaded pictures were in this fake profile. The bio part of the profile was like some science fiction story and the description said he wants to hookup fast ! The name was the same as his real one and even the location. This came as a big shock to Peter as he could not comprehend someone stealing his pictures only a few days after his registration. The “funny” part was when he wrote a message to that profile and the person behind it claimed that he was the imposter. (could be just a troll or something more serious, you never know)

On the same day he contacted the website administrators’ office and told them his story. Then they had a skype video – chat to verify if it’s truly him and they took down the fake profile. They never replied to our question “Did you ban his IP address? “ I guess all they care about is mainly the traffic of their website.

Next time I will tell you how to find out if your pictures are being used somewhere over the ocean called internet !
